Promoting child development and learning

Students prepared in early childhood degree programs are grounded in a child development knowledge base. They use their understanding of young children’s characteristics and needs and of the multiple interacting influences on children’s development and learning to create environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for each child.

This is a project I did for ED346: Brain Development for the Young Child. This focuses on the touchpoints from Dr. Brazelton. I focused on 4 month old children (pages 9-end). This showcases all of the things that are happening within the brain at this stage of child and brain development. Touchpoints give us the knowledge of how to support children in their development within the classroom but also how to support parents/families.

This is a research paper that was done for ED232: Educational Psychology. This paper focuses on if reward systems should be used within the classroom and how to go about using them. This promotes the learning environment and helps children feel supported. Rewards are often used in a way that does not support children in the classroom and this paper takes a deeper look at that.

This artifact is my Time Out Inquiry from my ED116 Teaching Profession II class. This fits under this standard because it discusses how to use the time-in method rather than time-out. This promotes a learning environment where children can feel safe and supported. This can be connected to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs because children need to feel safe in order to be able to learn.
